“Click for Babies” campaign Sept. 19

HALLOWELL – Calling all knitters and crocheters!  We invite you to “click” your knitting needles together to help prevent infant abuse in Maine and throughout the nation. KVCAP’s Family Enrichment Council and the Spectrum Generations William S. Cohen Community Center will host a “Knit In” on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 9-11 a.m. at the Cohen Center located at 22 Town Farm Road in Hallowell.

Frustration with an infant’s crying is the number one reason someone shakes and harms an infant.  By knitting purple baby caps, you can help us educate parents that crying is normal and that it is never okay to shake or harm an infant.
Your knitted and crocheted caps will be distributed along with the Period of PURPLE Crying program materials to families in birthing hospitals all over the nation.  The goal of the cap distribution is to help create awareness to families and reinforce the information contained in the PURPLE program.
Please join us in supporting this Shaken Baby Awareness campaign.  To learn more about this nationwide effort, visit www.clickforbabies.org.  You may also contact Lanelle Freeman, statewide coordinator, at 859-1577 with questions.
If you would like to participate in the “Knit In,” pre-register by calling Ruth Lessard at 859-1514 or Deb Rich at 859-1580. Light refreshments will be provided but seating is limited.
An explanation of the PURPLE acronym is at www.purplecrying.info.
