Lake George Regional Park announces upcoming events

SKOWHEGAN – Lake George Regional Park is celebrating its 20th anniversary during 2012 with several events this fall.
The Skowhegan Area Chamber will hold “Business After Hours” at Lake George Westside on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5 – 7 p.m.
Great Maine Outdoor Weekend will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 1 – 4 p.m.  This is a partnership with the Skowhegan Recreation Department to create free family fun day at Westside.
The Annual Fall Auction and Spaghetti Supper Saturday is set for Saturday, Oct. 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Skowhegan Recreation Center.  Auction donations are needed and appreciated.
Established in 1992 and owned by the State of Maine, LGRP is leased by the towns of Skowhegan and Canaan and managed by the Lake George Corporation, a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization.  LGRP receives no funding from the State of Maine and relies on contributions from businesses, individual donors and program and gate fees to support operating costs from year to year.
Each year approximately 20,000 people visit the park, utilizing the swimming areas, picnic areas, the extensive trail system, boat launch and various buildings on the 320-acre park.
The park is also a destination for school groups, boy scouts and girl scouts outings and other service learning organizations.   During the summer, the park hosts Camp Podooc for over 200 Skowhegan and Canaan children, offering a nature, arts camp and swimming lessons for children in grades one through six.
