Light refreshments will be served after the observance.
The Grand Lodge of Elks designated June 14 as Flag Day in 1907 and
adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every lodge starting in 1911.
The Elks prompted President Woodrow Wilson to recognize the Order's
observance of Flag Day for its patriotic expression. But it was not until 1949
when President Harry Truman, who was also an Elks Lodge member, proclaimed June
14 as a day of national observance for the symbol of our country.
The Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge is located at 21 Silver St. in
Skowhegan.
